Awww… this little leucistic sugar glider is so cute. It is hard to believe that it is real! Does anyone out there own a sugar glider? Are sugar gliders nice pets? They are certainly cute…
“Welcome to my humble strawberry abode. Shall I give you a tour of the place?”

Yes i know ppl who have sugar gliders… they are extremely undomesticated. You can handle them if you have them from birth but since odds are they’re not from your area and they don’t have a niche in your area they get sick really easy. They are also very very nocturnal…which is also very irritating. It’s basically like if you owned an undomesticated squirrel…that’s only awake from 11pm to 5am. Also keep in mind it is illegal to own a sugar glider in most states. The ppl i know who have these are animal rescuers. ppl get sugar gliders thinking they will be super adorable, and really can’t handle them and end up either abandoning them or killing them (via illness…not like actually smushing them or something).
Naw, they can be domesticated very easily, and adapt to people real fast. All they do is climb on stuff… there’s no marking territory or attacking people >.> soo they pretty much are domesticated. As for being annoying at night, not as long as there is some kind of thing to climb around on and stuff, and you leave food out. In the daytime they’ll be glad to sleep in your pocket ^.^ Pets are not a problem (except for snakes), with time they will get along, even with the neighbor’s mean old shitsu who keeps staring at and attacking you.
As long as you aren’t an ignorant adolescent with no time to do anything or a caveman, they won’t annoy you. You have to learn to respect them crawling on you’re head, that’s all.
They cost only 4 dollars a month to feed and do NOT have any known viruses and need absolutely no regular medication. They can be treated at any small animal- veterinarian, should they be injured. (their life span is around 15 years like a dog)
So, yes, they make great pets and are considered a part of the family. The only reason most people don’t know about them is because they reproduce vary slowly.
I recommend buying them from Pocket Pets since they are fanatics of… well, small animals =D
I have a reddish brown glider named Taco, and he’s awesome. He crawls on your head if you want him, and you can’t shake em off XD
Brittany are you serious?? You have never owned a sugar bear yet have you?? Your missing out on the undescribable experience of being able to bond with these absolutley amazing creatures which can easily be domesticated if you only know what you are doing!!! Not to mention there is a tremendous difference from a squierrel to a sugar glider to be polite. Like anything else it takes effort but the pay off is the BEST with a sugar bear rather than any other pet you can have mainly because of the bonding process.
Hello and yes sugar gliders are cuta and Sweet- I have breeding Pair and they make sweet beautiful Babies known as Joeys – the Pictire is of a Leucistic Sugar glider and there more expensive as they are more rare as any other color (stanard is Grey )I have two Joeys 8 weeks old I have two Joeys

I would hate to live in a house shaped like bacon.
That is one beautiful sugar glider and to RJ who said “I recommend buying them from Pocket Pets since they are fanatics of… well, small animals =D” Pocket Pets is a mill breeder who keeps gliders in unsafe and unhealthy conditions as well as spread false information about the proper care and needs of a sugar glider. Always make sure you research your new pets thoroughly and from a variety of sources
wat.
err ok then.. they seem to have a vary good cover because their website has everyone who bought em’ talkin about how good they are and they’re getting assistance and all that crap. Mill… unsafe… unhealthy… they live in a cage with their mom and a pouch for a couple months- I don’t see the trouble of doing that. But whatever, I have no idea exactly what they do so, if you want, you can go to Australia when you want to play with them.
Iv’e heard bad things about pocket pets too. I also watched a video on youtube by pocket pets meant to show you how to handle a sugar glider and they looked like they were very rough with them and most people who commented were somewhat outraged… could just be me but i dont really make my sugar glider do anything he doesnt want to do and he is very person friendly
Perfect Pocket Pets aka PPP are a real bad mill breeders. I can’t tell you how many horror stories I have read in forums about people getting sick and aggresive joeys that were seperated from their mothers way to early. PPP says that sugar glider only need a hard pellet food and a apple a day for food. Wrong! Hard pellet food is dangerous to suggies. It damages their little teeth which can cause life long health issues. The diet of sugar gliders should be 40% protein(they love mealworms) and the rest should be fresh/frozen fruits and veggies. Always research an animal before you purchase one. I almost bought from PPP and then I did more research. I’m glad I did. I now have 4 cute and fluffy sugar gliders. And my littlest one is a leucistic just like the one pictured!
Hey Holley how much does a white one sell for if I may ask, just curious, and if you breed a white and a grey what is the possability of getting a white baby??? thank you Pam
this sugar glider is so cute! i wish i could have one but i dont know if they are illegal in florida!and my parents are r scaredof them but they r so cute and loyal! i so love this pic.
I think this is cute to but are you really from Kansas! If so that is sooo cool I’m from utah and have always wanted to go to the eastern part of the state!!!
AAAAAAWWWWWW…… It sooo ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want 1 but dont have the money or time.:,(
Im not sure if I have been blessed with wonderful sugar gliders or what, but I love mine. I have read alot of negative information that made me weary before I bought them, but I found it all to be untrue. I have had virtually every kind of small pet, as well as cats and dogs, and by far, my sugar gliders are the most enjoyable pet Ive ever had and very easy to maintain and take care of. I did buy them when they were 5 years old, so Im sure I missed out on some of the pains of bonding with a joey. I cant see how someone would have any trouble with a sugar glider or keeping up with one. I have 2, Sam and Emma, and they are exact opposites. Emma is very sweet. She will jump to you when you call for her and is very social. Sammy however freezes up like a brick when there are alot of people around and doesnt really like alot of human time. He also bites alot, but I think hes just trying to figure out what things are. It doesnt hurt and Ive gotten used to it. He was very shy and anxious when I got him but he has warmed up alot, and I expect that we will continue to bond. Either way, watching him and Emma interact with each other is priceless. They sit in their pouch all day and I dont hear a peep from them. I get the pouch out of the cage around 9pm or so and then they slowly wake up and come out to eat and play. They pee as soon as they wake up, and poop everywhere they go, but 5 minutes of pick up at the end of the evening and its not an issue. All they do is run around. No problem. Then when your ready to go to bed, show them their pouch and they run right in. They do bark at night time and it is pretty loud. If they are in a different room you probably wont hear them, and when I do, its so damn cute, I just dont care. I know I wrote alot about this, but they are so great. I pity anyone who doesnt have them!
I own a sugar glider.Definetly not nice pets, unless you bond with them!By the way super kute glider.Wish mine was white. He likes oranges. And his own poop when he isn’t in the mood for a nice juicy apple or cucumber.HAHA Lol!!!!!!!!!
Good info, I kept my friends sugar glider for 2 months and wiped
down his cage and cleaned the food dishes everyday 2 cut back on
the smell, but sadly he left me 2 go back with his mommy.
Your suger glider is so cute.Wish mine looked exactly like mine.Wow random comment! I’m SUPER dumb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are randmom but your right they are so freakin’ cute!!! I wish I had one I want one SOOOO bad I have been begging my parents but so far they haven’t given in Yet…
iTOTALLY AGREE WITH pet sugar glider.sorry bout the CAPS.Whoops got 2 go. c ya
hi there. i know it’s like two years later but i’ve been reading the replys and getting pissed off. i own a sugar glider and they are great! you get them when they are 8 weeks old. this is when they originally detach from their parent and bond with another weather it be human or another glider. there are steps that you take that help the bonding process. it should take about 4 weeks for them to fully bond to you and once they do, it’s the greatest thing in the world. as for food, they get 1/8 of an apple a night along with 1/4 piece or bread about every 3-4 days. also there is a glide-a-min that you sprinkle on the apple every other day. there is also glid-a-chow that you keep in the cage the entire time. the apple and bread only go in overnight and you take it out in the morning. they don’t smell at all (except if you feed them meat. then they get a musky smell) other then that they smell like a puppy. they clean themselves so you don’t have to give tem a bath unless you want to. yes they are nighttime creatures but you can train them to be daytime. if they are nighttimel, you can take them with you in the daytime and they just sleep in the pouch or in your pocket or clevage (if you are a girl) then at night, they like to climb and play on their wheel. its not loud and it doesn’t wake you. i don’t know about this PPP place i’ve been reading about but a lot of people on here don’t have a clue what they are talking about. that’s the bad thing about the web. if you want SOLID answers that are TRUE (and i’m NOT joking about this) go to http://www.sugarbears.com this site is the best and only site you should go to. these people have been handling the gliders for 10 plus years. they know their shit. these are great pets and i hope this helps.
I just bought a sugar bear myself from Pocket Pets. Sugar bears are so sweet, and make for awesome pets. You just have to be careful where you get your information. If you want to get good, solid information go to this website: http://www.mynasga.org/ They are a licensed site, and they will give you all the information you need to know. Most websites out there, unfortently, give old information regarding sugar bears, which tends to lead to the death of these pets. Pocket Pets is a good, reliable site – from the licensed website listed above, they were rated at a 9.6 out of 10, where most other sites wre listed at 1 or 2, because they give you a lot of false information. If you get yourself one of these precious pets, please be careful, and don’t get sucked into false information
Sorry to disappoint, but that website, along with http://www.asgv.org/, and some others, are all run by Pocket Pets. They say what they have to in order to convince people that sugar gliders (they are NOT “sugar bears”!) are easy pets, but they are throwing around a TON of misinformation. They ARE considered exotic pets (contrary to what the website say), and you will need to find an exotics veterinarian to treat them. It is unlikely that regular small animal vets will be familiar with normal and abnormal sugar glider behaviors, diseases, etc.
I love sugar bears they are so much fun!!! just started this site and I luv it!!!!
so sad my glider just died 2 wonderfull years short lifespan i know
so sad my glider just died. 2 wonderfull years .short lifespan. i know
they should live about 10-15 years. so you must have done something wrong. even if you didn’t know you were doing it.
Only get if you know how to parent.. Less cute than a puppy mind you :3
My Brother Had A Suger Glider- Honestly: They Make This High Pitched N Loud Sound Just When You Touch Them. It Made Me Run Out The Room, It’s Scary. And They STINK, i Mean, But You Don’t Wanna Touch Them, They Are Always Sleeping. And When You Want To Sleep, The Bother You. Hell Yea They Cute, but No One Is Lying, They Are HARD To Take Care Of. If You Think You Can Handle It, Think Again. I Am Warning You!
how old was the one that your brother got? they should be 8 weeks old when you first get them and you should have a pouch that they sleep in around your neck in order for them to get your scent for the bonding. and they only stink if you feed them meat. if you do veggies then they don’t stink.
it is so cute
they are so cute but, how much do they cost?
i got my sugar glider + a cage and two months of food for $345
You are so luckky that you even have a sugar glider I still don’t have one!!
omg they are cute
I have been reading all these posts and i agree that PPP is a really bad site. They are horrible and they dont know what they are talking about. I want a sugar glider REEAAALLLLLLLLLLYYYYYY bad, but my parents wont let me get one. I am gonna try to save my money and convince my parents. Anybody kno where i can get a healthy sugar glider without spending a fortune?????
I just started the other day you know reading all of the posts but I love this website and the pictures I want a sugar glider just as bad as all of the rest of these people saying they want one and possibly even more then you and them!!!:)
Oh and also, if i do end up getting a sugar glider, does anyone know if it is ok to use a reptile screen cage??? They are about the same sizes and they are wayyyyyyyy cheaper. Is it ok to use it??????
i want one so bad!!!!!!!!
I want one just as bad as you do Jshield! They are so cute!!!
These little creatures are absolutely adorable i wish A had one of my own for a pet they are soooooo freakin’ cute!
This website randomly came up and I thought I would clear some things up. I’m currently in vet school and have owned sugar gliders and other exotics for years. Please do not buy a glider from Pocket Pets, almost all of their information is incorrect- their diet is awful, their info is dangerous, all vets will not and SHOULD not see gliders, gliders are not “safe” with cats and dogs, gliders need very large cages, the wheels they suggest are unsafe, and the cages they sell have a toxic paint that can kill gliders. They wean babies too young and sell sick, mostly inbred gliders who have much shorter lifespans. They teach “rough” training techniques and do not care about the animals they sell. If you want a glider, research good breeders. Some good breeders do ship their gliders. The by far best site on the internet is Glidercentral.net This is literally the only site I suggest to people. Everything is covered on this site, and I have received life-saving advice from people on their when my Exotic Vet wasn’t even sure what to do in situations regarding my little boy. Male gliders do have a small, even when they are neutered. Their cage needs to be cleaned every night, and they need to be fed fresh fruits and veggies along with their “staple” diet every night (to read more on appropriate staple diets, please go to glidercentral). All of the vets I have suggested this website to have been overjoyed. There is a woman on glidercentral who runs the largest Sugar Glider Research Facility and she is always there to help you (and your vet) with odd medical illnesses. Unfortunately, we do not have much research on Sugar Gliders thus far, but what we do know is that pellets, small cages, and everything pocket pets is wrong and dangerous. Please do your research, sugar gliders are loving and sweet IF you spend multiple hours every day with them. They take a lot of time and a lot of patience, and are nothing like other small animals. They get sick and require emergency vet visits because they can spiral downward so fast, and are expensive to care for (food, vet, and cage-wise). They are very smart, which makes it all the sadder when they end up with an owner who does not treat them as they should be- they get depressed, they over groom, and they can potentially self mutilate.
OK, so it really matters on where you get them, like my sister got a baby named Rango that came already domesticated, and her other baby (star) is hyper and HATES contact.
they are difficult to care for, require a diet mixed from scratch,a very large cage, and several hours dedicated to their care.
I have a sugar glider, he is my love <3
I want a sugar glider soooooooooooooooooooooooooo badly. I have a hamster now. HOw are sugar gliders like. Are they nice? Can they glide?
